Earlier this year the Coulter family’s world was turned upside down. The youngest Coulter, Dylan 20, was diagnosed with cancer. It was an unimaginable shock. Dylan has been diagnosed with a very rare form of soft tissue sarcoma, so rare only about 80 people a year are diagnosed with this type of cancer. The rarity of this cancer has made figuring out a treatment plan difficult, and after months of battling with insurance companies Dylan was finally able to be seen by a sarcoma specialist at Sloan Kettering in NY. With very little known about this type of cancer and since it is so rare and undiagnosed Dylan's cancer has since metastasized and has now spread taking the option of surgery off the table. Between his doctors at Sloan Kettering and UVM medical center in Burlington VT a treatment plan has been made and Dylan will start targeted immunotherapy in Burlington this coming week.
I have been blessed with over a decade of friendship with the Coulter family. And in that time, I have watched Dylan grow from a shy little kid to the person he is today. He is kind, funny, a hard worker and an awesome cook. Since his diagnosis Dylan has been out of work and his mom Tammy has taken a step back from her second job as a staple at Gringo Jack’s to focus on the ‘what’s next’. Tammy has not let her phone out of her sight so she would never miss a call from a doctor and be ready to leave as soon as appointments at various hospitals have become available. And because of that Tammy has also had to take time off at her main job as the cook at The Northshire Day School, she is the person you can thank for expanding the palates of many of the small children of Manchester and surrounding towns, I mean who else could get your kid to eat a salmon burger?! I cannot even begin to imagine how scary the uncertainty of the unknown is and because of that I would love to be able to help lighten the financial stress on this amazing family. The money we raise will go towards all the expenses that are accruing with Dylan’s treatment including the many travel expenses to receive his treatments.
I have made this GoFundMe with Dylan’s permission, and up until now Dylan and his family have shared what they have been going through with very few. The family asks that you respect their privacy as you can imagine this is all very overwhelming. I will continue to post treatment updates here as they come. And I know times are tough right now and monetary donations are not possible for all, so please share this account and send all your positive thoughts and prayers Dylan’s way as he heads into treatment this week.
