Donate to help the children of Siargao island.

Hi! My name is Serenity and I'm running the 2025 Bath Half Marathon to raise money for a cause very close to my heart.

If you don't already know I spent over a year living on the beautiful island of Siargao in the Philippines. During this time I got to immerse myself into the loving, vibrant & wonderful community of Northern Siargao and see first hand the struggles people there face.

One of these being the complete lack of educational opportunities for children with disabilities on the island, among many other things.

Coming from the UK where the attitude towards children with disabilities is vastly different, it shocked and appalled me to see that there is no government funded support for these children, with the attitude being that they are of a lesser value to society due to their disability.

Thankfully that is where charities such as Nature Kids Of Siargao comes in.

Nature Kids Of Siargao is a non-profit NGO based in Siargao who's aim is to ensure every child in Siargao attains right to survival, education and environmental knowledge.

They run an array of projects to support the local community, but the one being the most impactful in so many ways is their educational program.

In the founders of Natures Kids, Sanne Sevig Davis', own words, here's why we need your help:

'In our part of the island, children with special needs are not entitled to enroll in public school. We believe every child deserves the right to education, growth, and social interaction - therefore we opened Kids Club! Here more than 250 children are involved and perhaps the most important ones are our special kids. Each of these kids has an educational plan built for them individually, creating a sense of belonging, safety, and joy. We change lives - one tutorial class at a time.

Challenge

In the northern part of Siargao Island the public school system can't host children with special needs, eliminating their chance to access education and belonging.

Solution

The solution is called Kids Club and is a unique program in our region. The club offers tutorial classes individually designed to fit each student's need and ability, free of charge. We provide both one-on-one classes focusing on learning and group activities helping to develop social interaction and friendships. These activities in Kids Club change the lives and development of our students drastically. Kids Club is approved by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in The Philippines.

Long-Term Impact

As many of our special students lived isolated, and non-interactive lives before being enrolled, the positive impact on the whole family is a fact. Our students finally have a purpose each day and a safe space to go each time they want and need. Since starting 1.5 years ago we have significant development in self-control (less or no self-harm), communication and social skills with our pupils. Many of our students gain friends for the first time in their lives.'
