Hi! My name is Michelle Gordy. I was approached in December regarding a colony of approximately 100 cats at Trenton Correctional Institution (TCI) in Trenton, SC (Edgefield County). I have been in contact with the leadership team there and, last week, was given permission to begin getting them spayed/neutered. This is going to be a HUGE undertaking. The team currently consists of one member of the TCI leadership team, the spouse of an inmate, and myself. *As a side note, kudos to this inmate and others for working with the cats and getting them medical care when needed!
Our team is currently reaching out to local rescue groups and other organizations to see if there are funds available to help with the costs. I've been told that many of these cats are tame and will be able to be adopted, so we may request a small fee for adoption that will help offset the costs as well.
We have decided to proceed with this fundraiser for the cats of Trenton Correctional Institution so that we can start getting some of them fixed now. We are pursuing assistance from the local government and rescues, but that isn't going to be immediate; therefore, we need help from the community to get started! Kitten season is here, so that means it is URGENT that we get a jump on having these cats spayed and neutered. The sooner we start, the sooner we begin gaining control of the population there (currently 75 - 100 cats and kittens).
These cats are adorable and deserve our help! Each cat will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and evaluated for any other medical needs that are crucial to their health and survival. The cost per cat can range from $50 - $150 (or more) depending on each cat's individual needs. Assisting with this many cats is a major undertaking and no one can do it alone...but we can do it together!! No contribution is too small.
PLEASE HELP SAVE A CAT TODAY!!!
**The photo of the cat sleeping in the crate is from Trenton Correctional Institution and was adopted by an inmate's spouse. That poor cat was severely injured and needed immediate medical attention which was provided by the adopter. That baby is now living its best life!! All other photos are current photos of a few of the cats there that are still in need of spay/neuter, vaccinations, and medical care.**
