My friend Susan Quig Terry needs emergency surgery by the end of this year. I’m organizing support. If you’re able, a gift of any size today would mean a lot—and a quick share helps just as much. Doctors say urgent surgery is needed to prevent infection spreading to the spinal column. We’re raising $25K to cover surgery, hospital care, and a few weeks of recovery.
I attended Owensboro High School with Susan 50 years ago but didn't know her then. She was one of the super smart ones and was a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Competition. She won a full scholarship to Northwestern.
It was at a dinner during our 50th high school reunion in August 2025 that we first got to know each other and discovered that we were kindred spirits. Susan told me that she had suffered severe neck and back injuries in a terrible car accident a number of years ago, and that catastrophic event changed her life forever. She had to take some pretty harsh drugs due to the injuries she sustained. An undisclosed side effect was severe damage to her teeth. Her enamel was destroyed, and she now has a life-threatening infection located dangerously close to her cervical spine.
If the infection reaches the spine, it could result in sepsis, paralysis, or even death. Her doctor told her that time is of the essence, and she should have the surgery by the beginning of December at the latest. Funds go directly to Susan as beneficiary for medical and recovery costs.
Medicare Advantage will not pay unless the infection reaches her bones, claiming that it will only then become medically necessary.
The OHS Class of 1975 has already lost too many too soon. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
