Hi, my name is Lorraine and I'm raising funds to help my dear friend Steve and his wife Tanika. This is a couple who have always been there for so many others. I am sure others would want to know that they need some help.
Steve Needs Your Help:
To our Dearest Family and Community: Steve is gravely sick. We are unsure of when Steve will get to come home. But we do know that once he gets home, there will be a lengthy recovery period that will prevent him from working. We are asking for your help and support at this time.
You may know that Steve is his family’s main breadwinner. They are coming to the end of their reserves during this time of unexpected crisis. We are asking for your support to help them cover their home expenses while Steve recovers. Having the financial support of friends and family will give them one less thing to worry about as they try to focus all of their energy on treatment. Thank you in advance for any way you are able to help.
Here’s What Happened:
Last December, Steve came down with the flu. Because he is a kidney transplant recipient, his recovery time is longer than average (1-3 months). Toward the end of March after losing 25 pounds, he was still not having much relief. He suffered from chest pain, neck pain, severe fatigue, and weakness. He was instructed to see the family doctor when he developed a large knot in his chest. Multiple lung nodules and swollen lymph nodes were discovered through a chest scan.
On March 24, 2023, he was admitted to Vanderbilt Medical Center for further testing with his team of kidney specialists. These tests revealed that two very toxic fungal infections had attacked his lungs. We all are prone to getting either of these infections, however, a healthy immune system will combat them. Most times we'll never know we had it. Transplant recipients no longer have an immune system. Because of this, the infections have spread to the bones in his neck and chest wall, causing severe bone erosion. As a result, Steve has had two surgeries so far to intervene with the bone decay in his neck and chest. He also needed a very strong, toxic anti-fungal to combat the fungal infections. Due to the nature of this medication, there is an 80% chance of his kidney rejecting. Doctors are making every attempt to prevent this side effect.
As of Now:
We believe that God is able to heal all things and will provide them with everything needed to get through this time in their lives. Even with many unknowns ahead of them, they still have great hope. We all know that Steve is a fighter and will come through this victorious with the help of God and the people who are God's hands on earth. We thank God in advance for seeing them through this difficult time. And, we thank you for anything you can do.
