Hello, my name Is Alyssa and along with some of my coworkers, I am starting this go fund me for a very dear friend, Christine, and her beautiful family.
Silas’s parents, Christine and Stephen Patterson have been fighting for Silas since he was born on August 4, 2021. Soon after Silas was born he was diagnosed with a rare version of a genetic condition that caused him to have several rare and life-threatening illnesses including Biliary Atresia and four heart defects. Silas would need open-heart surgery, a liver transplant and several other surgeries within his first year of life. Unfortunately, Silas has spent the majority of his life in the hospital and has been through more than any child should have to endure. Since Silas’s issues are rare and complex, only a handful of hospitals in the US are an option. After getting turned down by the few options locally, Silas’s parents had to explore other options like Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Mayo Clinic, etc. Those options turned down Silas’s case as well. They finally found Silas the help he needs at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. UPMC was able to perform Silas’s open-heart surgery and he recovered wonderfully. However, the help from UPMC came just in time because Silas is now in End Stage Liver Disease. His liver failure began more quickly than expected and he needs a liver transplant soon. Silas will have to stay in Pittsburgh until a donor is found.
As if the circumstances surrounding his medical conditions are not enough to deal with, dealing with travel expenses to and from the hospital, insurance, gaps in coverage, medications, medical supplies, etc. have put a financial strain on the family. Due to Silas needing 24-hour care, and the nation-wide home nursing shortage, Stephen had to leave his job to care for Silas full time. Christine has continued to work to support the family. Christine has been juggling caring for Silas, his siblings, working full-time and dealing with all the calls and paperwork that come along with insurance, therapy, hospital bills, etc. If we can help take some of the financial stress off this family so they can focus on getting Silas the care he needs, it would make a huge difference.
We ask if you are able, please donate any amount to help lift this burden from a family who is experiencing the unthinkable.
Please help us spread the word about this amazingly strong little boy and his family, and continue to keep them in your thoughts.
