Donate to help Saving Macedonian Strays Big Build Project

We urgently need to move our shelter from its current location. After years of fundraising, last year we finally purchased 12000m2 of land. We now have all building permissions in place but our funds are depleted. We need help to raise enough to start phase one of the project, erecting a purpose built building to house 50 kennels plus a quarantine and arrivals kennel space.

The situation is getting desperate as we face many challenges remaining where we are. It’s a dangerous environment for both our dogs and volunteers and is no longer fit for purpose.

- our relationship with the landlord is very problematic, he refuses to renew our contract but has doubled the rent to 500€ per month because he knows we have no where to go.

- we rely on the neighbouring business for electricity, which they over charge us for. Plus on occasions have turned off the supply leaving us without power for 2 months last winter.

- the water pressure is so low it adds so many extra hours work to everyday cleaning tasks.

- we have no trees or shade and because the ground is made of stones it’s like living in a oven in the summer and either freezing or flooded in the winter. Sadly puppies have died due to the extreme temperatures.

- we don’t have a safe area for the dogs to exercise and they often escape as the fencing is in poor repair. The shelter is located next to a railway line and 6 dogs have been hit by trains.

- we regularly receive threats from one of the land owners adjacent to us which has escalated resulting in us calling the police 4 times. It is very frightening for our female volunteer.

- we don’t have a quarantine area for new rescues so taking a new dog is always very high risk.

- the metal kennels are old and damaged often resulting in the dogs injuring themselves and needing veterinary treatment. Our volunteers have also been injured.
