UPDATE: Molson had a left forelimb amputation today at Capital City Speciality and Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Ottawa. The surgery went well and he is currently recovery in hospital. The total came up to almost $8000.00.
UPDATE: Molson is booked in for Monday January 13 for a forelimb amputation at Capital City Specialty and Emergency Hospital in Ottawa. The estimate given was between 6,000 to 7,500.
In August 2024, we noticed Molson was limping on and off, we got x-rays taken and it showed some minor changes to his bone. We went to Esponola Animal Hospital in Chelmsford to have a CT of his arm done as this was the next step in diagnosing. The results came back as inconclusive, saying he may or may not have a lesion on his bone. At this point I was taking monthly x-rays to make sure the bone was not changing anything further. Molson was on pain medication and seemed to be doing ok. In December Molson’s pain meds no longer worked for him, he stopped using his left front leg. January 6 I went to Capital City in Ottawa to have a bone biopsy done. I got the results back today, and it is an aggressive type of bone cancer that will eventually spread to the rest of his body.
The next steps are to have his arm amputated and start chemotherapy. This will give him another year, another year to be loved. I rescued Molson from the Timmins Humane Society when I was 19. He was 3 years old at the time and had not had the best start to life. He was a reserve rescued who had been attacked by other dogs and shot at by humans (he has bullet shards in his ribs that we saw on the x-rays). Molson has been with me through all my highs and lows and I am not ready to let him go. Without treatment he has very little time left.
For those who know me personally, know that back in May we almost lost our dog Nelliee and spent over $15,000 to save her and she is thriving. We are again, thousands of dollars into diagnosing Molson and we have thousands to go. This year has been financially draining, and I hate to be this person but if anyone can help we could not thank you enough.
