Hello, my name is Mariah Preshaw and I am starting a go fund me for my dad Jason Mueller to try to raise money to help with medical bills. Everyone who knows my dad knows how hard he works to provide for his family and what an amazing person he is. My parents have done so much for me with all of my medical treatments so this is the least I can do.
On December 2nd, Jason cut his hand while working on his metal dump bed. He was cutting metal with a metal cutoff wheel. It got caught on the metal, jumped out and cut through his welding gloves and it cut the tendon on his right index finger. He went to Urgent care to have it cleaned out but they couldn't do that extensive of a job there so they sent him to the ER. He had surgery on December 15th to repair the tendon as well as clean out the wound. There was some metal stuck in the bone that the doctor had to remove. He was awake for the surgery and he even watched the surgery. He was given antibiotics. His hand then got infected and he was put on a second round of antibiotics. He saw the doctor on December 27th for a checkup and the surgeon said that he needed to do surgery to open it up and clean it out. He gave Jason two options - be awake again or he could be put to sleep. Jason was concerned about the cost and he asked the surgeon how much it would be to be put to sleep. The Doctor said a lot more so Jason chose the cheaper option to be awake. He said it was SO painful (and he has a high pain tolerance) to have the needle stuck in his hand in the infected area. He chose to endure pain to save money and had surgery on the afternoon of the 27th.
He had another follow-up appt. on January 3. The doctor informed Jason he needed to have an MRI done ASAP and they did blood work. He received a phone call that he needed another surgery the next day, January 4th. The doctor will open up both sides of his hand as the infection is in the soft tissue, the muscle and he has fluid buildup. He will stay at the hospital for a couple of days and he will go home with a PICC line to have IV antibiotics twice a day for 6 weeks.
They are being aggressive with this infection as Jason almost died from a staph infection in his knee years ago. The doctor said this surgery needed to be done to clean out the area and try to give Jason as much use out of the finger from all of the damage done already. He said Jason won’t be able to touch his finger to his thumb anymore. He will have to use the other four digits on his hand to grip things. He will have therapy for his fingers as they have been immobile for 6 weeks.
He is one of the most hardworking men I know. He has provided for his family for over 31 years. He works with his hands and they are trying to save his finger. The doctor said that he has lost full function of his finger and talked about amputation (but he said, we are not there yet) but wanted him to be aware and tell us about it. He owns his own Lawn care business and mows over 65 lawns every week. He does snow removal in the winter, which has been challenging the last three weeks with just one hand. He had help from his family to help him get these jobs done.
He will have met his deductible in December and now on the 3rd of January.
We are unsure of the cost of the six weeks of IV antibiotics through his PICC line, done twice a day for 6 weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please donate if you can and please share this as well even if you can't donate. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers, love and support.
