Hi, my name is Sandra! I am a 50 year old single mother from Colombia. I have suffered from migraines almost my entire life and a few years ago doctors found a benign meningioma (tumor) in my brain. Ever since we’ve been doing yearly check ups to make sure it doesn’t change in size. Unfortunately, within this last year, the tumor doubled in size urging its removal.
The doctors have ordered for the tumor to be removed by traditional surgery- craniotomy. This involves the surgeon making an incision on the side of my head and removing part of my skull to access & remove it. In my case, it is located in the underside between both sides of my brain, making its removal significantly riskier.
Most patients return to work 4-6 weeks post surgery, giving that all goes well. The doctors, my family and I are very optimistic that everything will go smoothly and I will be back to my normal routine in no time.
This is a major surgery and the process involves a lot of MRI’s, hospital time, therapy & doctor visits that can add up to be very costly. Not only has this been a big financial stressor for me & my family, but its also taken a big emotional and mental toll on us.
With insurance, I’m responsible to pay 20% of the total cost of surgery, in addition to $3,000/ day in the hospital. My family and I will be beyond grateful for any help that we can get to alleviate some of the financial weight that comes with this kind of situation. We are truly so thankful for any assistance during this difficult time in our lives!
