Many of you know Romeo, he’s our chonky and loveable sweet house hippo that’s lived many lives. He’s been an emotional support for many, including myself. The man’s been spoiled and loved all his life and he’s been there for all of us.

Unfortunately, Romeo’s reached a snag and is currently suffering a terrible infection that’s starting from his tail which had caused him to fall very sick. Romeo is unable to walk as the infection is traveling from his tail and through his legs, suffering from a UTI and needs a lot of support to keep him up to go potty.. He’s suffering from a high fever of 41.1 degrees, high blood pressure and high heart rate.

Romeo is currently in hospital care and has stayed overnight to stabilize his vitals. His vet had said this infection from his tail needs to be amputated otherwise it will be life threatening.

Just from his medication, iv fluids, exam, overnight stay, and blood tests have costed $3800 so far.

Once his fever comes down and the doctors say he’s ready for surgery there will be the cost of overnight stays and his surgery all together of another $8000 which is impossible for me to put together on my own.

$3800 is for another overnight stay with vitals, iv fluid drips, 24 hour care, cleaning of the wounded tail, keep his medication updated.

$4200 is for the surgery itself which includes the local anesthesia putting him to sleep during his surgery.

He has pet insurance however due to the condition he’s suffering the insurance company does not cover it. Due to good standing they were willing to cover only 20% of his cost.

Romeo has been my soul dog, my protector, our emotional support, a loving big brother to his siblings and my heart is breaking to see him suffer through this. I don’t know what I’ll do without him. He’s only 8 and he’s a healthy, happy furbaby he deserves every chance of life. He’s been there for me so now I have to be there for him.
