Hello my name is Chelsey Bryant and I am Roman’s mother. Roman is an loving and smart almost 5 year old. In 2022 Roman was diagnosed with autism level 2. We have noticed since 17 months of age things Roman struggled with other kids his age did not. His special gift affects him in his everyday life and routine. We have discussed and researched with his therapist the positives of what a service dog can do for him. Through endless days and nights of prayer God has lead us to Highland Canine Training Program in North Carolina. Roman gets over stimulated very easily and shuts down or “stims” which can be dangerous to himself at times if we are in a store, busy parking lot, and school. Roman’s service dog will be trained in deep pressure therapy and tethering. Deep pressure therapy is used when Roman is over stimulated, having a melt down, or stimming. The dog is trained to put pressure on Roman to help him feel comfort and help him calm back down. Tethering is a training technique where Roman is attached to the dog by a belt and the dog only moves if the handler (which is his parents) say he can. This helps keep Roman out of danger cause he likes wondering off, dart out in busy parking lots, and traffic. There is many tremendous ways that Romans service dog will be able to help him succeed in life and feel comfortable. The service dog is ADA approved so Roman be able to take him everywhere he goes. We look forward to seeing our son grow a bond with his dog. It relieves my heart and mind knowing how much easier everyday life will be for Roman with his service dog. Thank you all for taking time out of your day to hear about our wonderful special son Roman.
