On September 26th, my niece Michelle and her husband Rob had their lives suddenly upended. Rob, a hardworking self-employed construction contractor, suffered a terrible accident while working on a job site. He fell from a ladder and tore both quadriceps—an injury that required major surgery.

This type of injury is not only extremely painful, but also has a long and difficult recovery process. Doctors have told him he will not be able to return to work for at least a year. For someone who has always provided for his family with his own two hands, this has been an incredibly hard reality to face.

Because he is self-employed, Rob has no disability coverage or employee support that he can rely on. The medical bills from the surgery, ongoing physical therapy, and follow-up appointments are already piling up. On top of that, Rob and Michelle are now facing the challenge of covering everyday living expenses without his steady income for the first time in 32 years. While Michelle continues to work, it just isn’t enough to carry the weight of the coming year’s financial burden.

Anyone who knows Rob knows his tireless work ethic, his unwavering character, and the compassion he shows to everyone around him. He has always taken pride in providing for his family and lending a hand to others. Now, it’s Rob who needs our support.
