Dear Friends and Community,
This is a difficult letter for me to write as Commander of American Legion Post 429.
As many of you know, we recently suffered a devastating fire in our building. The fire began upstairs, causing extensive damage, including to our canteen and banquet hall. Unfortunately, when we submitted our insurance claim, it was denied. We now have attorneys working on this matter, and we remain hopeful for a positive outcome.
The American Legion proudly supports veterans in Rhinebeck and the surrounding areas. We are also deeply committed to our community—supporting organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, auxiliaries, fishing clubs, and many others who turn to us for assistance. In addition, our banquet hall has long been available to the public, helping us cover expenses while serving as a gathering place for the community.
Now the tables have turned, and we are the ones in need. Our immediate goal is to reopen the canteen and ballroom so we can begin generating revenue again and covering our ongoing expenses. From there, we will move into Phase 2—completing the repairs needed to fully restore our building.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to reopening our doors, continuing to serve veterans, and giving back to the community we love.
Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time.
With gratitude,
Commander John Imperato
American Legion Post 429
