Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway offered to provide a safe home for Garforth Railway Station footbridge after it was required to be removed from its original home of some 120 years. This bridge was removed to provide space and safety for the electrification of the main UK east coast line and to provide accessibility to both platforms. As a listed structure a new long term home was required.

Bredgar railway offered to take it, preserve it and erect it over their 2' gauge line providing public access to the structure as it will be located where a footpath crosses our line. The Railway Heritage Trust funded the ground works and foundations for the re-erection and have offered further funding toward the completion of the work. Local cycling clubs also raised £1,000 last year to assist with replacement bolts. Up to date information on restoration can be found here .

At present we are at least £30,000 short of the required funds to save this bridge dating from 1900. We realise that a Victorian footbridge is not at the top of everyone's "must save" list but our group of over 100 plus volunteers are dedicated to providing a safe long term future for our industrial heritage. We really would appreciate your help.
