I’m writing this post sitting in the ER with Raff. We are beyond exhausted.

We have recently begun our 5th year fighting for Raffi. We are at a Complete Loss. This journey has stretched out far beyond what we ever thought possible. The sadness has become quite the monster to deal with on a moment to moment basis.

If you don’t know her, Raffi is Wondrous Woman, a Magnificent Mother, and a Dream of a Wife. She illuminates every room she’s in with radiating love. There is no one like her, and she is struggling in a monumental way.

4 years ago Raffi had a Radical Vulvectomy and I was given the honor of telling her that her mass was cancerous. Since then, it has metastasized to lymph nodes and other places in her pelvis. Over the years, we have treated at many facilities and used many modalities. We have gone down the integrative path, and we have gone down the conventional path. At this point we have relocated our family multiple times and flown all over for treatment.

We have relocated to TX to be with family during this time and re-establish a team with fresh eyes. The cumulative strain of our situation makes the smallest hurdles nearly unbearable. The pain is relentless and affects sleep every night. Her tumor load is elevated again and her weight is down which is not a good combination. Her days are spent in bed at this point sleeping as her body is working very hard. She is not really able to walk much or get around at all. Laying on her belly hurts, laying on her side hurts, laying on her back hurts, and she is not able to sit. This has been her painful reality for over a year. It’s torture in the most literal sense.

We have been making connections in TX and have some paths charted out. It is continually abundantly clear that God is in this Story. At this point, and for the past years, I have been Raffi’s full time caretaker, and for the foreseeable future this will remain. We need to get her weight back up, and get her strength back. We desperately need to stop this tumor growth. We are still very much in the thick of it.

They say for every day down in bed, it takes 18 days to get back. Well, she’s been down for years. The Math is Insane.
