Hi, my name is Georgia and our four year old pug, Rhubarb, has recently been diagnosed with a liver shunt. Sadly, this is a condition he was born with, but until now the signs had not fully shown themselves. Over time, his symptoms have started to become more noticeable and are now affecting his day to day life and overall quality of life.
A liver shunt is a serious condition where blood bypasses the liver instead of being properly filtered. This means toxins can build up in Rhubarb’s body, which can lead to symptoms such as confusion, tiredness, sickness, poor appetite, and neurological episodes. It has been heartbreaking to watch our happy, loving boy struggle with things that should come so easily to him.
Despite everything, Rhubarb is still the sweetest little dog with so much love and personality. He deserves the chance to live the healthy and happy life every dog should have. After speaking with specialists and our vets, surgery has been recommended as the best option for giving him that chance. Although the surgery does come with risks, it could dramatically improve his quality of life and allow him to live a long, normal and happy future.
Unfortunately, the cost of surgery, specialist care, scans, medications and ongoing vet bills is incredibly high and we are doing everything we can to make this possible for him. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us and would go directly towards Rhubarb’s treatment and recovery.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Rhubarb’s story, and for any support, donations, or shares. We truly appreciate every bit of kindness shown to our little boy.
