Hi, my name is Susan and I'm fundraising for my beautiful friend Paula Freshel Janda. Paula is in a fight against Breast Cancer. She was diagnosed in October 2021. So far she has had 3 surgeries and 6 rounds of chemotherapy. She still has a long road ahead including 2 more rounds of chemo, then mastectomy surgery and recovery from that. Then, she is scheduled for 25-30 rounds of radiation. Finally, she will need reconstructive surgery.

Paula is single and handling all of the expenses for these treatments on her own while being off work since October. The bills are starting to roll in, including the cost of monthly Cobra insurance ($700+/month) to keep her medical insurance going. She has roughly $10,000 in medical bills to pay thus far with more coming, and will have another $10,000 in regular living costs while she continues her treatments and surgeries through the upcoming fall.

Paula is a life-long Michigander born in Detroit, MI and has made Imlay City, MI her home. She has been a Registered Nurse at McLaren hospitals since 2009 working on various floors including Med-Surg, Neuro, Labor and Delivery, and Behavioral Health. She has two beautiful daughters, Jessica (31) and Marlena (26), and two kitties that need their momma healthy.

Paula is an amazing friend, mom, and nurse. She loves yoga, the outdoors, pina coladas, and walks on the beach. She has a great sense of humor and says her favorite past-time lately has been checking her bald head for hair growth.
