Aloha e,
My name is Albert. I was raised on the island of Maui, in Honokowai and Lahaina. My father worked as a police officer for Lahaina. My grandmother (a teacher) and my mother were Hawaiian quilters. Although I now live in Honolulu, Maui will forever be in my heart and part of my soul. Several family members still live there, including my baby sister, Tepatasi.
We're raising funds for my sister Tepatasi and her family, all which are born and raised in Lahaina. We are extremely grateful that she and her 3 grandchildren, and great-grandchild (2 more are on the way) were able to safely evacuate. Their home for over 30 years, has sustained some damage to the fires. It truly is a miracle that the home is still standing, as it was located in the heart of the city. The devastation around is immense. Their hometown, where they were raised, where they worked, and where they frolicked, has been wiped out. :(
We now have a better vision of how her family's needs can be met. We are setting a new goal. The donations received will go towards any immediate needs (doctor's appointments/prenatal care, gas, and food), and contribute to the long term goals of getting the home back in order (electrical, plumbing, roof, etc.).
This will be an ongoing gofundme. All donations will go directly to Tepatasi's bank account. Any donation, no matter how small ($10, $20, etc.), is welcomed and greatly appreciated. We also ask that you help SPREAD THE WORD through social media, email, and text message. There are many people out there looking for ways to directly help Maui victims. It is comforting to know who your money is assisting.
Thank you once again for your continued prayers and support.
Mahalo nui ~
