My name is Omar Duffus and Jamaica is my home country. On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm — the most intense storm ever recorded on the island.

The devastation was described by the United Nations Office in the Caribbean as being at levels “never seen before” in Jamaica.

Entire communities were flattened: roofs ripped off, homes destroyed, roads blocked, infrastructure in ruins — especially in parishes like St Elizabeth Parish and Westmoreland Parish in the western region.

Crop fields, small farms, and local food supplies are devastated. The agriculture sector — which feeds many rural families — has been severely hit.

With supply chains disrupted, fresh food scarce and many families now face food insecurity.
The rural-coastal communities (often with less infrastructure) are especially vulnerable — they need help quickly.

Our Mission
We aim to raise $5,000 to purchase and ship non-perishable food items (such as rice, beans, canned vegetables, cooking oil, dry goods) to those most impacted by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. The funds will be used for:
Purchasing bulk non-perishable food supplies locally or via trusted suppliers.
Shipping and transporting those supplies to Jamaica and distributing them in the hardest-hit regions.
Partnering with trusted local community groups / relief organisations in Jamaica to oversee the distribution.
Providing updates to donors — photos of the supplies, the distribution events, stories of the families helped — so you see your impact.

When disaster strikes:
Fresh supplies (fruit, vegetables, produce) may not be available immediately because farms are destroyed, markets closed, roads blocked.
Non-perishable items can be shipped, stored and distributed more reliably in the short-term, when the need is urgent.
By delivering food, we restore dignity, ease urgent hunger, and help families sustain themselves as recovery continues.

My Personal Connection
I grew up in Jamaica / have family roots in Jamaica / care deeply for my homeland — and seeing the scale of destruction this storm has caused to homes, farms, lives, it’s something I cannot stand by and watch. I want to do something practical and direct. Your donation means help on the ground — not just words, but food reaching families who need it now.

How You Can Help
Donate : Even $25 or $50 goes a long way when pooled with others.
Share : If you can’t donate now, spreading the word (on social media, email, community groups) makes a huge difference.
Follow our updates: I’ll post regular updates so you see the difference your contribution is making.

What Happens Next & Transparency
Once we reach the fundraising threshold, we’ll purchase the supplies and arrange shipping.
We’ll partner with a local Jamaican organisation (church, community group, relief agency) to distribute the food to identified households.
After distribution, we’ll post photos, testimonials and a short report: how many families were reached, what was delivered, where it went.
Every donor will receive updates via this page — accountability is important.

Closing
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring, for giving, for sharing. Jamaica needs us now — the effects of Hurricane Melissa will be felt for months, even years. Food is a basic need. Together, we can bring hope, sustenance and relief to families who are rebuilding.
Let’s help Jamaica rebuild — one food box at a time.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
