Hi, my name is Toiyah, and I’m a single parent to my beautiful daughter, Oaklyn.
Oaklyn is just 5 months old and has already undergone four open-heart surgeries due to multiple complex congenital heart conditions, including Pulmonary Atresia, Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), and associated vascular abnormalities. Her care has required highly specialised treatment, all of which has taken place in Melbourne.
Over the past four months, we’ve been living away from home while I continue to pay rent in Adelaide, alongside the costs of daily living, travel, and caring full-time for a medically fragile baby. During this time, my entire focus has been on keeping Oaklyn safe and getting her through each surgery and recovery.
As we prepare to return home, Oaklyn will require frequent medical appointments and ongoing monitoring. I currently have an unreliable car, which adds a great deal of stress and anxiety when thinking about safely getting her to appointments and responding quickly if something isn’t right.
Doing all of this as a single parent has been incredibly challenging. I’m mentally and emotionally exhausted, and while I’m so grateful to be bringing Oaklyn home, I also carry a lot of anxiety about managing her complex care on my own.
I’m hoping to raise funds to help ease the financial pressure of this period — including rent and living costs while interstate, securing reliable transport for Oaklyn’s ongoing care, and allowing me to plan for a more stable future. I would love to study toward a role that would enable me to work from home, so I can continue to meet Oaklyn’s medical needs while providing for us long term.
Any support, no matter how small, would make a meaningful difference for us. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page is just as appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness you’re able to show during this incredibly difficult chapter.
