This GoFundMe has been created to help one of the kindest humans I know. For transparency, my name is Julie, and I live in Anchorage, Alaska. I have been friends and a fellow nurse coworker with Nicole (aka Nikki V to many of you) for the past five years. Many of you may not know Nicole, but I can tell you she is consistently doing for others and spreading kindness. She creates community and finds commonality among everyone. She’s the person who wakes up early before work to make green chili chicken enchiladas for everyone just because. Without hesitating, she would invite you into her home, make sure your needs were met, and show you how to fish or bead or whatever you desired to do in Alaska, all with a nonjudgmental and caring disposition. She is truly the best, and I am privileged to call her my friend. This caring demeanor she possesses stems directly from the goodness of her parents and their New Mexico community where she was raised.
Tragedy has now struck Nicole’s family. The current raging wildfires in northern New Mexico have burned her childhood home to the ground, the house her parents built themselves in their early 20s. They lost everything. Not only their lifelong belongings and a dog, but also two tool sheds, a tractor, a side by side, two vintage cars, the list goes on and on. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Their cattle and another dog survived. Unfortunately, Nicole’s uncles and childhood friends have also lost their homes, and the fires are still raging.
Money can’t bring back memories lost from their sentimental belongings, but it can help lessen the sudden life change. This money will go directly to Nicole’s family to help aid them and their extended family and friends in this time of loss. Any amount helps. Please share with our Alaska community and beyond. Thank you.
