Donate to help Nick with his cancer treatment

Hello, our names are Dwaine and Silvia Van Bibber. We have decided to start this fundraiser for Nick, our 22 year old son, who on 6/12/23 was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

For the past several months we have been working towards a diagnosis for a suspicious lump that appeared on his neck and gradually began to grow. After a round of antibiotics, which proved ineffective, a referral, some bloodwork and finally a surgical biopsy, we received the results and the news was not good. It was cancer. Simply to get to this point, he has been struggling with an overwhelming number of medical bills. But unfortunately, we anticipate his upcoming chemotherapy treatment, which is slated to begin within the next couple of weeks (and last between 4-6 months), to be astronomically expensive. To make things more complex and stressful, our health insurance company is currently negotiating with the doctors in the network we are using and if an agreement is not reached by July 1st, their services will be considered out-of-network. We will be applying for a continuation of service, but that only lasts for 90 days. This could impact Nick for his last few treatments if no deal is reached and he has to pay out-of-network rates to complete his treatment. Because of this, we would like to get ahead of the anticipated financial burden to the extent that we can so that Nick can focus on the fight he has ahead of him without the worry of how he will pay for it all. He is actively working full-time, and God willing, plans to continue to work during his treatments.

The plan is to use any funds raised for lab tests, CT scans, PET scans, chemotherapy treatments (perhaps as many as 12), radiation treatments (if needed), and lung and cardiac function tests.

We know that Nick has always had a large circle of friends. We've met many of you over the years and know that he could not have asked for better quality people in his life.

We humbly ask for your prayers of healing, words of encouragement for him and any financial support that you can offer. Nick has been emotionally and physically strong through all of this and is taking everything in stride. We could not be more proud of the way he has handled everything so far, but we realize the steep climb is still ahead and we want him to know that he is not alone in this fight and that we are all in his corner.

Any proceeds collected that exceed his direct medical needs will be donated to the Young Adult Survivors United, a non-profit we recently learned of during our cancer journey. They are making a difference for young people like Nick.
