Hi, My name is Lena Gelland, I am fundraising for my family from Kyev, Ukraine. On Thursday, February 24 I called my brother and nieces in Kyev to wake them up and tell them about the beginning of the Russian invasion. I begged them to leave as soon as they could. In 3 hours they were on the road in heavy traffic heading west. They stayed for three days in a remote village in Western Ukraine following the news in shock and disbelief. Again, I pressed them to cross the border to Poland as the rockets began to hit. They were fortunate to find temporary shelter in the suburbs of Warsaw, thanks to the kindness of the Polish people who are very supportive and generous. My family’s neighborhood near Kyev was targeted, the roads and local shopping center were destroyed by bombings, although their apartment buildings are still standing. They left all of their possessions behind. Now we have to look into their future. There are 5 adults and 5 kids. (Victoria, Milana< Sofia, Katya and Sasha) ages 4 to 13. They need a normal life; shelter, school, safety. I am writing this from Warsaw where I am visiting them, helping them to get visas and move on. We are working on a plan of relocating them to North America. As soon as they get approved for travel, they will need money to purchase tickets and rent a temporary place. The money you donate will be used for these two purposes. My wonderful client and friend Diana L. already gifted $1000! Thank you Diana, that is a wonderful start!
