Hi,
My name is Kat and I am fundraising for my sister in hopes that this will save her life. On February, 10th 2023 my sister, April, was admitted into the hospital with heart failure and was given a diagnosis of her life expectancy if she continued to live at a higher elevation. They informed her that living in Colorado, her health is declining drastically due to the elevation where her lungs are fighting a disease called Sarcoidosis and as a result, she has developed Pulmonary Hypertension and an enlargement of the right side of her heart. She's been highly encouraged by her medical team to leave CO as soon as possible and move to a sea-level elevation which would give her health a better chance at survival and longevity. If she stays in Colorado they fear she would decline drastically and it will be fatal. She is a single mother who needs to move herself and her daughter across the country and doesn't have the means or the health to do it. The cost of moving alone is expensive for anyone but for my sister who is in poor health and taking care of my niece, she needs our help.
I am begging you to please read her story below and how she has gotten to this point and why we are in serious need of help to get her out of Colorado and move her to the east coast to give her the best chance at survival possible.
April moved to Colorado in 2012 and in 2013 she was diagnosed with the same chronic lung disease as our mom called Sarcoidosis. When she received the unexpected diagnosis, she could have crumbled, but through diet, exercise, and low steroids she was able to maintain her oxygen levels without the need for oxygen.
It wasn't until 2015 that her health started to decline from stress. In that year she experienced both family and personal losses starting with both our parents passing in 2015 just 6mo apart and then shortly after she was asked for a divorce, suddenly becoming a single mom. The loss and grief took a major toll on her health.
She was put on oxygen full-time with a diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension in addition to Sarcoidosis. Her arteries carrying blood from the heart to the lungs became so narrowed and damaged that the right side of the heart is forced to work harder.
Even with medication and oxygen, my sister's symptoms continued to grow worse. For the last two years she has been trying to move out of Colorado but life with this illness means constant adjustments and accommodations and bills.
Fatigue and poor health have altered her income and financially she hasn’t been able to relocate to another state.
As a mother, April has put on a brave face for her daughter and refused to let her health issues define her. Anyone who knows my sister personally knows she’s strong and self-reliant but is now at a point where she really needs the help and I want to do everything I can to make sure she gets it. She is young and this illness has already taken 8 years of her life. Being a natural-born dancer, I would love to see my sister dance again!
You could make a difference in helping us save the quality of her life. If you would like to assist with their financial burden, any donation would mean the world to us! All funds raised will go directly to all the out-of-state moving costs and related travel expenses for April and her daughter.
Here is an estimated breakdown of expected costs for her move:
- Flights for April and my niece to fly one way to the east coast: $250-$300 per person = up to $600
- Moving company quote to move their boxes/ household: $3794 - $4000 before gas
- Moving her car: $1100
- Moving supplies: up to $300
Totals to $6000. Any help you could give to help her with these estimated costs would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to listen to her story and help my sister finally get out of Colorado to help her journey for better health and longevity of life.
Sincerely,
Kat
