Donate to help my partner Kat through this health crisis

Kat and I met at an acting conservatory in London in 2015 and were fast friends. It wasn't long before we fell deeply in love. Even before we got married in 2018, Kat and I knew that we both wanted children and that we had found our ideal parenting partner in each other. After getting married, Kat moved to New York in 2019 to pursue their career and we were long distance for four years. We both graduated from post graduate programs this May and just celebrated a year of being reunited under the same roof here in New York. This should be a time of celebration with our whole lives ahead of us, but we’re unexpectedly facing a health crisis and we need your support.

In 2022, while we were living an ocean apart, my partner Kat was diagnosed with what looked like a borderline serous tumor on their right ovary. The tumor was the size of an orange and they were at risk of several medical emergencies including ovarian torsion (twisting of the fallopian tubes) and rupture. Borderline essentially means precancerous and the only option was to remove the entire ovary, which was done in a successful surgery. When they biopsied the tumor they found that it was, in fact, borderline, and doctors were shocked that a person so young (25 at the time) would have a tumor that severe. We were warned that the chances of a recurrence on the remaining ovary and gynecological cancer were much higher as a result. While the human body is amazing and can adapt to losing one ovary, loss of the remaining ovary would prevent us from having children biologically. We immediately explored options for IVF in 2022, but, with Kat still young and in possession of a healthy ovary, insurance would not cover even a consultation.

We've now learned that Kat has another likely precancerous tumor on their remaining ovary, as well as a potentially cancerous fibroid on their uterus and adenomyosis. The chances are high that more surgery will be required in the near future and, most likely, the removal of Kat’s remaining ovary. We now have a small window of time in which to freeze embryos, preserving our chance of having children together.

This money will go toward medical expenses not covered by insurance and living expenses while undergoing treatment.

We never expected to have to undergo something like this so early in our lives together. Both of us being recent graduates and myself being newly immigrated to the United States to be with Kat, we thought that this was the start of an exciting and beautiful life that we’re building together, which, in our minds, always included both of us having good health and, eventually, a family. We are truly grateful for any help you can provide to make this dream a reality for us.

Warmly
Harry
