Hello,
My name’s Olivia, and I’m writing on behalf of my mom, Mary Peng.
My mom is a strong, funny woman and a proud single mother who’s worked so hard to provide for her little family all on her own. She’s the kind of woman who rarely asked for help, but was willing to lend a hand where she could. She always put my brother and me above all else and raised us with tough love, because to her, it was the best kind of love. My mom always wanted the best for us, and now we just want to give her the type of support she gave us.
In early September 2021, my mom was experiencing increasing upper back pain that she thought was just sore muscles. About a week later, the pain had gotten so severe she could barely move, so I took her to the emergency room to get her back looked at. We were devastated to find out she has Stage 4 Lung Cancer which has already spread to her brain and spine.
We were hoping with immediate chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery we could reduce the spread of cancer and help with her comfort. A few months after undergoing surgery to remove cancer in her brain, it aggressively spread back to areas where surgery isn’t possible. The new growth caused loss of speech, confusion, and numbness to some parts of her body. Our goal with her treatments now is to reduce her pain and keep her as comfortable as possible.
Because of the nature of her cancer, office visits are becoming more frequent, her medication list has grown, and she has recently started in-home health services. With all these services, on top of premiums and deductibles, bills are becoming overwhelming and we're quickly running out of resources. Looking at the coming year, we estimate the costs of her care would add up to about $20,000.
After exhausting all available resources, my brother, Spencer, and I turn to GoFundMe to ask for your help. We would greatly appreciate a donation to my mom as that would allow her to continue her pain management treatments. These treatments allow for her remaining time to be as comfortable as possible.
