Hi, My name is Cerys and I am currently a student midwife about to enter into my second year of study. I would never normally ask for money from people without a promise to give it back however at university as part of our degree we are offered the opportunity to complete an elective where we can enter into another area to experience different types of maternity care. This can include across our own country or in and around other countries across the world. Since knowing this is an option I have always been very interested in the potenitial of completing my elective in a county other than our own, more specifically in a nation such as Ghana or Kenya where healthcare is very different to what we experience in the UK. I am hoping I can experience the contrast between maternity care where the facilities and funding are much less than that of our own in the UK and see how this affects outcomes and experiences. In order to do this we have to fund these experiences ourselves including accomodation, insurance and flights which at the minute is completely not feasible for me due to paying for accomodation and bills at uni! I am completely aware that this is quite a large ask and i will geniuenly be so grateful for help anyone can offer, I am hoping to fundraise enough to contribute towards me being able to do this experience to further progress my knowledge and experience as a midwife but i am very aware this may not be possible due to my lack of funds hence setting up this go fund me. I would like to add any money that is fundraised through this page that is not used towards my elective i.e if i am still unable to afford it or excess funds are raised i would like to donate towards the SANDS charity which supports bereaved parents in a very difficult time in their lives.
