Help Jim In His Fight Against Liver Disease

Anyone who has spent a short amount of time with Jim knows he is never short of entertaining stories, and lives life very much in the moment. For those who don’t know Jim, he is a veteran, former athlete, sports enthusiast, adventurer, and has a heart of gold for his friends, family and strangers alike. His selfless nature makes him a giver to all, and one to never ask for anything for himself. He has truly known a hard days work, starting from a young age practicing in competitive sports to his adulthood providing for his family, at times working up to three jobs to give each of us three kids our own bedrooms, braces, gymnastics, basketball and soccer practices. As life can be — when it rains, it pours. My father’s health has taken an abrupt turn forcing his ability to work and live a normal life to wane and now halt. He is undergoing countless medical appointments, pending surgeries, labs, diagnostic imaging and a transplant list in his near future for non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and lesions on his kidneys amongst other issues specified below.

A Heart Of Gold

— He has a deep love for his kids, an unbreakable bond that time and space could never break.

Brentwood Hawks, 2018 Special Olympics

— For eight years, he poured into his passion of coaching for the Special Olympics for the Brentwood Hawks. Starting with one team with five players and expanding to 40 players and four teams.
— Sacrifice is not new to my father, it’s a familiar friend he knows well and greets warmly when anyone is in need, almost to a fault. He is selflessly available to lend an ear for those who need someone to listen. He’s been known to donate his time and volunteer to lift others up and to give back to his community.

— He’s a rescuer of animals, not stopping at just cats and dogs.
— He cherishes life in others and lives his to the fullest. He healed many through his medical endeavors and compassion for anyone who came to him.

A Fun Loving Soul

— A die-hard Raiders fan, through thick and thin.
— A former basketball player in high school and college who’s talent led to the basketball court being filled with chants of his nickname “Fish”, short for his last name — Fischer.
— Qualified and ran the 1 mile run at The California State Track & Field Meet in Los Angeles and League Champion Cross Country runner.
— A traveler and adventurer with a strong love for Hawaii and the locals he’s gotten to know so well over the years.

Jim’s Health Status

My father is suffering from non-alcoholic Cirrhosis of the liver and Lesions on his Kidneys, possibly caused by an immune disease/disorder that has limited his quality of life and halted his ability to work. His day starts and ends with extreme lethargy and zero stamina. He has high levels of iron in his body as well as Hepatic Encephalopathy which causes confusion making it difficult to work and to keep up with the demands of day-to-day tasks. Arthritis is plaguing both hands and wrists with constant/persistent pain, swelling and stiffness, making it difficult to use his hands to work or live without assistance. For the past 8 months, he has been enduring insomnia and low blood pressure. And most recently, carpal tunnel has been added to his records. My father has MRI and CAT Scans every other month of the abdomen and chest and will be placed on the liver transplant list soon. This diagnosis came during the peak of the pandemic and efforts to file for Social Security Disability have been lengthy as they are behind due to SSD staff working from home due to Covid-19. Through this, my father never complains, never asks for anything, and when you ask “How are you doing?” He always replies, “I’ve never had it so good!” He loves his children, his beautiful girlfriend Vicky, his family and friends, and his adopted kitties Abbott and Costello.

It is now, after decades of my father being there for others that I humbly look to others in our community to help in whatever way they may, whether it be prayers, donations, positive thoughts and/or well wishes. No donation is too small and any donations received will be going towards helping him afford bills, medical treatments, diagnostic imaging, labs, doctors appointments, surgeries and hospital stays.

Thank you to everyone who took their time to read about my father and we are eternally grateful for your thoughts, prayers and donations.
