Help our family escape a crisis

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We, the Okasha family, come to you with heavy hearts, seeking your support during these times. Our family is in the mist of an ongoing war in our home country of Sudan which has been going on since April 2023. Our mom managed to escape the war in June, taking the last flight out of the country at the time. However, she left behind her brother, sister-in-law, their two children who are 3 and 4 years old, and her disabled mother.

The war has been going on for over 10 months, leaving our family, jobless, homeless and terrified. For the past couple of months they have been going from town to town to find shelter, food and water. We are in desperate need to get them out of the country and somewhere safe, Egypt is our best bet. But for them to make it there.. they need visas, transportation, medicine, and a place to stay in Egypt, and then hopefully they can find jobs and start a new life. Our grandmothers conditions have gotten much worse since the war started… to the point where she lives in a bed. Unable to use a restroom, to walk and to sit up. She needs to be rushed to the hospital in Egypt for immediate care.

We have been trying our best to help them the past 9 months but it’s been a struggle. We never wanted to seek help but we have come to the point where we are in need of your support. Due to the war, the prices have spiked to an all time high for anyone trying to escape the country.. and that is why we are asking for your help. It can make an immense difference in our family's pursuit of safety and well-being. Every contribution, regardless of size, will directly impact their chances of reaching a place of sanctuary. The funds raised will go towards the essential elements of this journey (see below)

We launched this GoFundMe with the goal of raising $20,000 to ensure that our family gets to safety. The situation is dire, and the funds will be allocated as follows:

• $9,000: Immediate evacuation expenses for our family (food, water, visas, transportation, medicine, etc.)

• $5,000: Shelter, clothes and basic necessities

• $6,000: Medical care and other expenses, primarily for our disabled grandmother's hospital bills
