A few months ago, my girlfriend Tara and I noticed my dog Ghost was having some strange puffiness and swelling in his facial area. After a few trips to the vet, they had suspicions that he may have an autoimmune disease known as Masticatory Muscle Myositis. After putting him on meds, Ghost slowly started to lose strength in his legs until he got to the point where he couldn’t even stand up anymore at just 4 years old. After a costly trip to the emergency vet we found out he is anemic and the doctors still have yet to find out why. He already spent 3 days in the emergency vet and had to get a blood transfusion to bring his red blood cell count back up which was incredibly costly but necessary. While improved, it looks like Ghost will probably need to see a few specialists and worst case, may need to go back to the emergency vet if his red blood cell count drops again. We have already spent close to $8000 between all of the vet bills with more to come. I’m scared that if he requires emergency medical attention again we will be running out of ways to pay for it. So I’m asking if anyone could find it in their hearts to help us with any future expenses that may come our way.
