My aunt Marthita is fighting for her life.

She’s, a beloved Galápagos Naturalist Guide who spent years showing visitors the beauty of the islands. But in 2022, after catching COVID-19 at work, her life changed forever. Persistent symptoms led to a devastating diagnosis: stage IV lung cancer with brain and bone metastases.

She lives in Ecuador with my grandmother, who is elderly and in need of daily care. While battling cancer herself, my aunt is also doing her best to look after my grandmother. The medical bills, daily living costs, and travel for treatments are piling up faster than we can manage.

Her only hope is an expensive medication called ALECENSA, costing $4,200 every 22 days. Insurance covers part, but she still needs $1,600 each cycle, on top of other medications, regular tests, and travel for treatment.

As a family, we are helping as much as we can, her friends are helping too. But the reality is this fight is bigger than what we can handle alone. We urgently need to raise $30,000 so she can continue receiving the medicine that’s keeping her alive and supporting my grandmother.

Ella es una querida Guía Naturalista de Galápagos que pasó años mostrando a los visitantes la belleza de las islas. Pero en 2022, después de contagiarse de COVID-19 en el trabajo, su vida cambió para siempre. Los síntomas persistentes la llevaron a un diagnóstico devastador: cáncer de pulmón en etapa IV con metástasis en el cerebro y los huesos.

Vive en Ecuador con mi abuela, quien es anciana y necesita cuidados diarios. Mientras batalla contra el cáncer, mi tía también hace lo posible por cuidar de mi abuela. Las cuentas médicas, los gastos diarios y los viajes para tratamientos se acumulan más rápido de lo que podemos manejar.
