Donate to help me study in Peru.
Hi, my name is Yemaya. I am a full spectrum doula and a Mama of four, living in a land-based community in Wales. I work with people navigating birth and death, and my teachers are Death, Spirit and the Land. I am raising funds for my oct 2024 trip to Peru. There is an 8-week course that I wish to take with the Shipibo people, learning about the traditional uses of medicinal plants and trees, working with the ancient and unseen beings.
I wish to name the great vulnerability of crowdfunding for what some folk may call "a holiday"! This journey, for me, is a pilgrimage. As a survivor of multiple sexual abuse, domestic violence and ancestral and my lifetime oppression, Ayahuasca, and the beautiful people who carry this master plant, have saved my life. Meaning, that I now have the absolute privilege of being in a deep process of healing, free from addictions and self-harm. I want to go to where this plant comes from, to give thanks and respect, to continue my healing journey and to learn more about the tradition of the Shipibo medicine carriers.
Why do I want to learn?
Part of my mixed heritage is Peruvian, there is a homecoming there that I am excited to experience. There is a calling there for me, to bring the spirit of Shipibo plant medicine insight to my community, to my work here in the UK, with reverence and permission. As I deepen my healing and experience, I can care-take ever more deeply for the humans that I sit with in their last days, or in the space where new life is born. Because these are the same spaces where our humanness fully meets, remembers and dances with spirit.
What is the money actually for?
I have saved half of the course fee. I ask for support for
the second half of the course fee, 3 months of child maintenance for my children's father, for their full-time care.
Encouraged by those dear to me, to put myself out there, and ask for support with community funding. My Dad called me audacious. But I believe in the power of community. And I have to try.
Thank you for reading, and hearing my share.
With love,
Yemaya
