"Help Me Publish Two Amazing Books!"

Hi, my name is Boakyewaa Glover.

I am the author of The Justice, a political thriller about a former chief justice of Ghana’s quest for power; Tendai, a science fiction novel that imagines a scenario where black magic and science collides; and Circles, a romantic drama set in a steamy world.

I love writing! It is my life and it is my passion. I love telling stories. I love stirring readers’ imagination and providing an escape.

But writing hasn’t been an easy journey. It has been difficult to get an agent and a book deal through the typical, traditional publishing process. The pool of African writers making a splash on the global, international scene is very narrow. Publishers in the West are simply not interested in the contemporary African narrative, as they remain fixated on the historical, downtrodden, soaked in hardship African story. Modern stories depicting the other side of the coin, highlighting life of luxury is ignored, as these stories are similar to life in the West and not considered unique.

Self-publishing is a viable, long-term alternative to traditional publishing; an option that is growing year after year; a medium that is placing millions of great content on the market, content that otherwise wouldn’t have had an opportunity to get to readers. However, this approach has a stigma as the ease and speed of self-publishing often means minimal quality control, particularly with editing, and formatting.

All the same, with the right story, funds and approach, a self-published book can also be regarded as high-quality with serious earning potential. $1.25 billion worth of self-published books is sold each year. Amazon pays $520 million in royalties to self-published authors each year. Even better, self-published authors earn up to 70% in royalties, while royalties for traditional publishing are between 4% and 15% of net sales (all discounts, returns, marketing costs, and overheads deducted). For traditional publishing, only high-profile authors earn above 8% and authors must also pay their agents (15%) from their percentage.

And so, I really need your help. I have two incredible manuscripts ready that I wish to publish and release this year.

COMMITMENT has been in the works for a long time. It’s a passion project. I love that story so much. COMMITMENT tells the story of sacrifice - how we often put our needs and wants and dreams aside to sacrifice for our parents or families, how we live lives that are not of our choosing but because it’s required by duty or family. COMMITMENT also showcases a world where women fall subject to predatory men just to survive, to make it another day.

The other book is LOVE YOU MORE, a collection of love stories that tug at the heartstrings but also highlight the complexities of relationships. You may see videos and pictures of couples on Instagram and say “#couplesgoals”. But there’s often a lot more behind the scenes that LOVE YOU MORE attempts to unravel. The beauty and the pain of love.

I want to publish these books! And I want to publish them right, with appropriate spending on editing, formatting, design, printing, shipping, marketing, etc. I also plan to re-launch my earlier books - all 5 books on the market!
