Mark Jones is the 2023 National Amateur Sumo Wrestling Champion. As the U.S Champ, Mark now has the opportunity to represent the U.S. at the World Sumo Championship held in Tokyo, Japan this October. That's where you come in - Mark needs your help to get to Tokyo.

Meet the Champ

Mark Jones is relatively new to the sport of sumo wrestling with only two years of experience. In his first year, Mark took the sumo wrestling world by surprise when he placed 6 at the National Championships after less than six months in the sport. Many would have been content with a top 10 finish, but Mark remained hungry and took the top prize home this year.

Mark is a former highly recruited NCAA Football Division 1 recruit from Port Orange, Florida. Although injuries ultimately ended his collegiate football career early, Mark's passion for competion, especially in contact sports has persisted. Mark has played semi-pro football, rugby, basketball and now sumo. He has excelled at every sport that combines size, strength, and mobility.

As the new champ, Mark decided to establish his own sumo wrestling team called Gorilla Sumo-Beya. The "Ginger Gorilla" nickname was bestowed upon Mark early in his sumo tenure and derived from his beast-like explosiveness in the ring and his trademark ginger complexion. At Gorilla Sumo-Beya, Mark hopes to attract talent to help him sharpen his skills and help grow the sport locally.
