Hello friends .. I am Samar Yousef Hijazi, a Palestinian young woman from the city of Ashkelon "Al-Majdal." My family name reveals our origin; we are originally from Majdalawi descent, displaced Gazans. I was born in Gaza City, lived there for thirty-one years, and currently reside with my family - my parents, younger sister, and my married siblings. Despite successfully completing my university education, I haven't secured a prestigious job due to the situation and blockade we endure, along with high unemployment rates in Gaza. Like many youths, I harbored dreams and ambitions, turning to the world of art and painting as a hobby I cherish, finding solace and fulfillment amidst the suffocating blockade. I constantly yearned for life, art, travel, success, and achieving my aspirations. One of my dreams was to become a respected artist, tirelessly working towards it amid the harsh realities. I found joy in simple moments, especially indulging in my art, music, and dreams during quiet nights. However, war shattered everything beautiful around us; my family and I were displaced due to the ongoing conflict in the besieged enclave, fleeing the horrors of relentless warfare that spared no one. After months of displacement and enduring the hardships alongside my family, I strive to reclaim my strength and passion through art, feeling alive amidst the chaos, hoping to leave a mark worthy of my existence. Art is fundamental in my life, serving as my inspiration and renewing my spirit. Hope resides in our hearts, longing for the warmth of our true home, Gaza. We found solace only within its walls, sheltering behind its memories, for what is humanity but a collection of memories? This is my story amidst the thousands of narratives and shattered dreams in Gaza. Gaza, we miss you

A Journey Through Hell"

A story that embodies steadfastness in the war-torn Gaza Strip!

I am Samar Hijazi, from Gaza City, I was forced to flee with my family to the southern Gaza Strip in search of a safe place!

I will never forget that night, the night of November 19, before I fled from the north to the south, shells and missiles rained down on our area from warplanes and tanks from every direction, they were firing at us randomly, it was a night from hell, a brutal night in which I lived the horrors of the Day of Judgment, I surrendered to fate then, I could not believe that morning had come upon us while we were alive, the family made the difficult decision to seek refuge in the south leaving behind their home and memories.

I left carrying only a handbag containing some of my clothes, some of my belongings and a bottle of water, is it reasonable for a person to carry their home and memories in their hand!

The journey to the south was like descending into hell. I walked and around me were shocking scenes that I could not have imagined in my worst nightmares, we were not allowed to stop, the streets were crowded and tanks and soldiers were everywhere on the road, which terrified my heart and the hearts of those who left their homes and lives behind them in search of safety.

My family and I arrived in the south, to the unknown, not knowing where to go and what to do, my brothers, my mother and my father, each of us went our own way, looking for a place to shelter us, I lived very ugly feelings, as if you feel lost and do not know where to go and what is your fate and the fate of your family, many questions were running through my head! I lived in a tent, and faced many difficulties, I got sick and suffered, I saw many people from different cultures than me, I suffered a lot and suffered because I was not able to deal with them, I did not feel special, in addition to the lack of food, medicine and basic supplies, we were struggling to find some basic necessities, trying to survive with the least!

I lived very, very difficult days, nights and feelings, despite all that I am proud that I am a Palestinian from Gaza, a young woman like me who lived through previous wars and is now living a war of genocide, and I am still fighting reality with my strength, steadfastness and determination.

I hope that the war will end, and that I can regain my previous life, I used to draw flowers, the sun and my family. I hope to return to our home to live safely among my family..
