Help me afford therapy for a year
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gaby (though most of you will know me as Gibby or gibbymoo) and I’m raising funds for private therapy to help me in my mental health recovery.
Having struggled with my mental health since I was 11 years old, mental health problems have robbed me of so much. From the age of 11, I have struggled with self-harm, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks, and chronic dissociation as a result of childhood trauma. When I was 17, I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, which left me bed and chair bound, and having to drop out of college. Since the age of 19, I have been admitted to psychiatric hospitals, sectioned, and put on all sorts of medication.
After being sectioned, I was lucky enough to receive a year of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) on the NHS. DBT was a huge step in my mental health recovery that I will be forever grateful for. However, just as I was seeming to get better, NHS funding can only go so far, and the therapy came to an end.
Since my therapy ended in October 2023, my mental health has been deteriorating. I am no longer clean of self-harm, my suicidal thoughts and anxiety have worsened, and just getting out of bed some days is incredibly difficult. I am at the lowest point since I was last sectioned. I am terrified of ending up back in hospital.
Setting up a fundraiser is an absolute last resort for me. Private therapy is expensive and will dent in my finances. I have set the fundraising goal provisionally to £6,240+ to cover the cost of at least a year of therapy. Donations to this fundraiser will be used to pay for private therapy sessions (up to £120 per session).
Any contributions will be greatly appreciated and will help me get one step closer to living a life where mental health problems no longer rule me and interfere with my daily life. Thank you for taking the time to read my story ❤️
