On Tuesday the 22nd of October I woke up to a call from mum, explaining to me that my Brother Matt was getting airlifted to the Brisbane Royal and Women’s hospital. He had suffered a large brain haemorrhage caused by a mass known as an AVM.
We flew to brisbane immediately to be by his side whilst he spent 3 days in ICU and had undergone brain surgery, where the doctors discovered 3 Aneurysms. This means the next steps would be complicated regarding treating the AVM.
Matt Is currently still in the hospital and has a drain inserted into his head to reduce the pressure and get the blood out of his brain fluid, steps they have to take before proceeding. He still has a few surgeries to come, possibly months left in the RBH and a very long recovery ahead all which has to happen in the Brisbane Hospital, he cannot be transferred home to Rockhampton, his home, because they don’t have the resources for something like this.
My sister in law Rose was the one to drive out to him at his work Monday night and take him to the hospital. She saved his life.
Her and Matt have a 19 month old together, my nephew, Alec. Naturally Rose needs to be here in Brisbane during this time that can take months, and unfortunately once her and Matts leave runs out they will have no income.
The cost of short term accommodation in Brisbane is very high, Rose and Matt still need to pay their bills, mortgage etc. while on leave. Mine and Roses parents are covering the accomodation costs for the foreseeable future but it’s unsustainable for them over the long term.
Which brings me to why I have set this Go-Fund Me up for my brother. He is a hard worker, a loving father and devoted husband. If you have anything to spare my hope is to raise enough to cover the accomodation, flights and day to day living expenses to at least remove some of the stress both Matt and especially Rose are experiencing so they can focus on Matt, his recovery and his rehabilitation.
