Help Marissa heal after car accident and surgery
Donation protected
Dear friends,
On Wednesday, June 26th, Marissa was beginning her day in Los Angeles as normal—rising extra early (4:30 A.M) to prepare for a long day at the studio as a Union Sign Writer, grateful to be back on set after a grueling 16 month stretch of unemployment due to the Hollywood Writers Strike. Unfortunately disaster struck before her arrival to work. As Marissa attempted to merge onto the freeway, she was cut off by a semi truck causing her to swerve to the right. Losing all control, her car quite literally flew off the road, doing a complete 180, down a hill and into a tree. Upon impact, she shattered her right wrist, hand, lower arm and cracked multiple ribs. Luckily Siri picked up on the car’s collision and made a call to emergency services to report the accident. Marissa was able to maneuver herself out of the passenger door before the car caught fire and exploded.
She was then rushed by ambulance to Huntington Hospital where she was admitted for the next seven days, undergoing reconstructive surgery to remove bone fragments and install four metal plates, eight screws and two rods in her hand. Her surgeon has said that although she will regain mobility in her hand, she will never have the full function she did prior to the accident.
Marissa is known for her dedication to the craft of painting. She recently celebrated 10 years of Super Signs, a business she began in Philadelphia and continued to grow when transitioning to Los Angeles in 2019 to start her career in the Hollywood film industry. This temporary loss of function is detrimental to her livelihood over the next several months. Unable to perform even her most basic needs or lift anything over three pounds for the next several months, she is required to have consistent help from friends and family.
As if this wasn’t painful enough, Marissa’s health insurance lapsed due to the Writers strike in 2023 which makes matters more complicated as her medical bills are mounting. My hope is to collect donations by way of GoFundMe to ease the burden of this immense financial strain and assist Marissa in covering her living expenses while she is unable to work. Donations will also help her to pay for physical therapy which will be a requirement 3x per week for the next six months, at minimum. Marissa’s car was also a complete loss in the accident, as it was not covered under collision insurance.
Despite this devastating and life altering event, Marissa remains positive. Any donations to help support her recovery are accepted with gratitude. Thank you for reading and please share!
