Donate to Help Maks and Family

Hi, My name is Marta and this fundraiser is for my nephew and his family. This past weekend after many hours of fun in the sun, it all ended in one of the worst sounds you could hear and sights I have witnessed.

My nephew who is a sweet, funny, smart and energetic 9 year old boy was riding around our yard on a children sized 4 wheeler when all of a sudden he somehow lost consciousness, lost control of the bike and crashed into a parked vehicle where he was then launched from the 4 wheeler, over the handle bars and into the air. He landed on the grass a few feet ahead of the bike and immediately started screaming in pain. My partner who is a first responder ran to be by his side, followed by my sister in law and myself (I'm not so fast at the running). Quickly we could see this was serious and took to action to get Maks the help he needed. I ran to get my brother and with a shakey voice and trembling hands, I called dispatch to get an ambulance to help us. They got to our home as quickly as they could. 2 rigs showed up after assessing the situation after my call and we were blessed with 4 paramedics who took the best of care of this sweet boy of ours.

Quickly being transferred to our local hospital he was well taken care of by amazing nurses and the on call physician. X-rays showed that his leg was broken both above and below the knee.

Next steps were to set his leg and airlift him to CHEO late at night. Followed by major surgery the next morning to get him fixed up and on the road to recovery.

My brother and sister in law have been by his side every moment, and other family members have helped with transportation of them, caring for their other small child and and will have to continue to do so over the next few weeks as he remains in the hospital at the moment, and will need to help him transition to home life, then school life.

All of this being said, here is where I ask for your help. Luckily we live in an area where his medical bills are not the issue, but time off of work now and in the upcoming weeks and months can put a strain on life as we all know. There will be many days off work for both parents, need for physical therapy among many other expenses relating to this horrific accident.

I'm asking to help relieve some stress for this amazing family at this time, and every little bit counts.

On a side note I want to publicly thank the Paramedics of Renfrew County, the hospital staff at SFMH, the Orange Helicopter Team, CHEO staff, and to everyone who has shown their love and support over the last few days.
