In the summer of 2020 two best friends, a snobby hypochondriac and an unbothered slacker, are working at a mini-golf course before their senior year of high school. Their friendship is tested when they start competing for the attention of the hot new e-boy in town.
Meet Our Team!
Abby Bobo, Producer: Abby is from Little Rock, Arkansas and is currently a senior at the University of Central Arkansas. She has had a passion for writing all her life and loves to see those stories played out on the screen. Abby loves to watch, read, and write romances and comedies (and the occasional drama), and she is especially interested in telling stories from women’s perspectives and that support feminist ideals. One of her favorite movie genres is the teen comedy, and she is very eager to bring this story to life.
Janie Gentry, Director: Janie is from Vilonia, Arkansas, and she is currently a senior at the University of Central Arkansas. She fell in love with filmmaking five years ago when she started working with the Inception to Projection program in Hot Springs. Janie loves to make people laugh and her passion is writing/directing comedies. She is invested in using humor to explore feminist issues. Her short film “Oh Shit” about a grandma losing control of her bowels and a granddaughter exploring her sexuality is currently making the rounds at film festivals.
Chloë Richards, Unit Production Manager & Editor: Chloë is from Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, and is currently a senior at the University of Central Arkansas. She is very detail-oriented, and loves keeping things organized and helping her team stay on track. Along with editing, she enjoys working as a Director of Photography and Assistant Camera. In 2023, she was hired as an intern and camera operator for The Chuckwagon Channel during filming of the National Championship Chuckwagon Races. Outside of film, her passions are comic books, 90s/early-2000s rock music, creative writing, and taking pictures of her cat. Teen movies are one of her obsessions, and she’s excited to help bring this one to life!
Our Ask
To make this film a reality, we are asking for $4000. The money donated will go towards the following categories:
Talent: 25%
Our story is very driven by best friends Hayden and Avery’s friendship and connection. We want the best possible actors to bring these characters to life!
Art & Production Design: 25%
We are going to need lots of props to transport you back to 2020. These include masks, gallon jugs of hand sanitizer, face shields, gloves, etc.
Food & Transportation: 40%
Our crew is so generously donating their time and labor. We want to make sure that while they’re working with us they are well fed and their gas tanks are full!
Post-production: 10%
Once we’ve got the footage, it has to be edited together! After it is completed, we want to share it with the world by submitting it to film festivals.
Besides donating money, there are so many other ways that you can support us! If you are able to donate any of the aforementioned props, or if you can volunteer to provide a meal for one day on set, those would be a tremendous help!
Words from the Director
Graduation is right around the corner for me. Now that I’m at the end of my college career, I can’t help but think back to how life was four years ago. I was feeling all of the anxiety that any high school senior has about their future, friendships, and relationships. Then you pile the uncertainty of Covid on top of that, and it was a total pressure cooker. Even with the world upside down and uncertainty looming at all times, my friends and I still managed to be normal teenagers. We worked at our silly minimum wage jobs, we drank and smoked, and we were always trying to get a boy’s attention. With Double Bogey, I want to make a relatable teen comedy that reflects my generation's unique high school experience.
Why does this story matter?
This story speaks to our experiences at the end of our high school careers and the uncertainty that comes from transitioning to a new stage in life. On top of that, we were dealing with Covid-19 and the uncertainty about how such a disease would affect our lives in the long run. Would society ever go back to “normal?”
Now as we approach our college graduation, we face the same questions we did back then: What will we do next? Where will we go? How will our relationships be affected? and more. While Covid isn’t the biggest threat today, there are still many changes happening within our country and in the world at large that are causing feelings of uncertainty about the future to sweep across the globe.
