Remember the ice bucket challenge in 2014? ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Most of us haven't thought about it since 2014, but since Linda was diagnosed in late 2019, it has gained a constant presence in her life, as well as the minds of her family and friends. Many people have asked how they can help, so we designed this GoFundMe!
Linda has been an active member of her community her whole life. Many of you know her as the woman who made your summers sweet with ice cream at the Jigger Shop for over 20 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Drew, pursued their lifelong dream of living by the water in coastal Virginia, making up for all the beach trips they had missed during their previously busy summers. Linda enjoyed an active lifestyle; riding bike, walking on the beach, exploring trails at state parks, but is unable to enjoy the outdoors currently because her wheelchair will not function on anything but smooth, flat surfaces.
The money raised is going directly to fund the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van so Linda can enjoy the outdoor activities and places that give her so much joy! Any additional funds raised will go toward making handicap modifications to their house, such as widening doorways, installing an accessible roll-in shower, and adding ramps.
Linda has given her time, energy, and love to those around her for her entire life. Please give what you can to help her live life to its fullest!
