I recently went to the hospital due to severe abdominal and back pain. The doctors discovered that I had dissection of both the renal and iliac arteries. Arterial dissections happen when the inside wall of your artery tears. Blood gets in the tear and separates the layers of the artery wall, which can be life-threatening. A blood clot formed, which prevented proper blood flow to my kidney, and I was admitted to the hospital. Doctors believe that it was likely due to stress that brought to light that I possibly have a very rare type of genetic disease called vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, as it appears to be the most logical explanation, though I have not officially been diagnosed with the same as of yet by a specialist. Prior to going into the hospital, I had been sick for some time, and since coming home from the hospital, I am praying for a full recovery while I continue to fight what is now considered chronic pain. I will have even more scans/tests in the coming weeks, as well as appointments with specialists to help me figure out the best way to move forward. While the uncertainty of my condition is disconcerting, and the gravity of how lucky I am to have survived this is just now setting in, I remain optimistic. The goal is to eventually get back to a healthy and active lifestyle, but with some necessary modifications to activity (and medications) that will help mitigate risk. Due to being unable to work full time for a number of months, I unfortunately need assistance with medical and personal bills/expenses while I exercise patience during my healing process. I was hesitant to ask for financial help, because that is not in my nature, and I did not want to make my personal medical issues public, but I would be truly grateful for any assistance that you may be able to provide during this most difficult time. Thank you, my friends.
