Help Laura on Millie's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Several days ago, Laura's three-year-old daughter, Millie, had what we would later learn was a seizure. Millie went from the local ER to Johns Hopkins PICU unit. She remained largely unconscious for over 36 hours, waking up only for us to see her lose speech and motor control. She was diagnosed with enterovirus encephalitis (a rare inflammation of the brain found in 3% of cases associated with high mortality and morbidity). She confounded Hopkins various specialist teams and despite a plethora of tests, lumbar puncture, and scans, we still do not have clear answers on the cause of ongoing leg pain and the initial and subsequent seizures. Millie regained speech and is working on gaining all motor control back. After 4 days, she was released from the hospital. She is now an outpatient at Hopkins neurology clinic, and she needs neuro follow-up visits, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Millie is going to need a lot of Laura's attention and time in the next month or two. And this is in addition to caring for Edi and Presley.
People have asked how they can help. (Thank you!! It means so much.) We have a Meals Trains page for people who that works best for. We also know meals don't work for everyone, and since they have a lot of non-meal needs (medical expenses, lost wages, additional childcare while Laura is with Millie at doctors visits), we wanted to set this up, too. Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and words. <3
