Today, March 30th, Dad went in for a routine physical after having several months of increased fatigue that just seemed to not be getting any better. Upon evaluation at his primary care, dads heart rate was 29 and his blood pressure was 180/80. The doctor completed an EKG and lab work on sight to determine the root of his low heart rate. Dad was found to have what is called a 3rd degree or complete heart block meaning that the electrical signals in his heart are not communicating. Dad was sent by ambulance from the doctors office to CMC-Main where he was met by a team of cardiologist. After more lab work, a chest x-ray and MRI of his heart, the 3rd degree block was confirmed. Tomorrow morning dad will undergo surgery to have a pacemaker put in.
