- Hi my name is Paula and along with my husband Darren and his close friends we are looking to help out John on his long road to recovery . As you all would be aware John was a fun loving guy who just enjoyed life . Over the past two years John was believed to have had a Fossa Cyst at the rear of his head however when he was admitted to The Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital for surgery on the 24 th June it was discovered he actually had a Hemangioblastoma which is a rare benign brain tumour . This type of tumour grows very slow and presses on the spinal cord . The surgery itself was deemed a success however the gap left from the removal of the tumour has left repercussions for John . Within 24 hours of surgery it became evident that John had paralysis to both sides of his body with the right side being more severe. On the 11 th of July John stopped breathing and was resuscitated three times with the final time nearly being fatal . He was re admitted back into ICU where he received one on one care . During this time he had difficulties with breathing and it was decided on the 23 rd of July to perform a Tracheotomy to assist with this . John’s prognosis going forward is unknown and he will require extensive rehabilitation to see which direction his life will take next and that could mean being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life .
John is dearly loved by his family and friends who have chosen to initiate this fundraiser to relieve John from the financial pressure from medical and everyday bills as he will be unable to earn an income for an indefinite amount of time as he concentrates on his recovery .
