My dad, John Zaff, has been battling pancreatic cancer for over a year now. Unfortunately, he was recently admitted to hospice, and we are now cherishing what we know are his final days.
As many of you know, my parents have been through an overwhelming amount of hardship, even before this heartbreaking diagnosis. After losing our home in a storm several years ago, they’ve struggled to rebuild their lives. Now on top of this, the medical bills, unexpected care costs, and reality of trying to stay afloat while unable to work have created a financial burden impossible to manage on their own.
If you know my dad, you know he would not be asking for help if it wasn't totally necessary. In his final days, he has asked me to put this together to fulfill his final wish that his family be taken care of. It’s all he talks about. It is the one thing he is trying to accomplish before he leaves us, and one of the last remaining loose ends keeping him from feeling at peace.
A message from my dad:
"Thank you to all my friends. Those who know me know my motto: Above all, family. My deepest concern, even now, is their wellbeing and security. It is my biggest regret to be unable to help them in this time. Your help is so gratefully appreciated."
His greatest worry right now is my mom’s stability after he passes. Without him, she is being forced to downsize and leave her home, in the middle of everything else. His wish is to fundraise enough to help her afford a place to live. She has been working tirelessly and is close to being able to afford a small apartment near her remaining family. But she is still short of what she needs—especially when factoring in moving costs, downsizing, and the financial aftermath of the past few years.
She would never ask for help herself, but my dad is desperately trying to ensure she has a safe, modest place to live. It is his one comfort as he reaches the end of his life.
If you are able to help in any way—whether through donating or sharing—please know that it will directly support my dad’s final wish to bring peace to our family during an incredibly painful time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
