John Kach and his family are desperately seeking a kidney donor to save John's life. They are also seeking financial support to help with the transplant's significant medical expenses and John's quality of life. Please read John's story below.

In the spring of 2000, when John Kach was a 19-year-old student-athlete at Salve Regina University, bacterial meningitis changed his life forever.

What he thought started as the flu escalated quickly, and John was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Once there, his condition continued to deteriorate, causing seven major organ failures to the point where he was given his last rights. He then spent weeks in a coma, lingering near death, and four months in the ICU. His amazing team of doctors said they had never seen anyone so sick who survived.

Despite surviving, the damage to his body was devastating. John had amputations that claimed all 8 of his fingers and both legs below the knee. Imagine being a 19-year-old kid, the world ahead of you, thinking you have a fever, and you wake up weeks later with no legs or fingers.

After countless surgeries, the challenging road to recovery began. John spent six months in a rehabilitation center learning to walk with prosthetic legs and adjusting to life with fingerless hands. However, this recovery process brought with it significant challenges and setbacks. John experienced other issues, such as additional amputations, infections, and continual internal problems stemming from the trauma of the illness.

In 2012, he learned he was in renal failure. In 2013, John received a kidney transplant from his mother, Paige.

That transplant was successful, and John has made the most of the ten years of reasonably good health that followed.

Unfortunately, doctors say John, now 42, must have yet another kidney transplant to survive.

The financial costs are daunting. John and his family seek donations to help with his second kidney transplant, medical expenses, and John's quality of life.

Even more importantly, John is in desperate need of a kidney donation. His family is continuing to search for a match.
