Hi, my name is Suzanne and I'm Joe's sister-in-law.
They say if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. Well, this couldn't be more true, as we live our day-to-day and walk, type, hold our phones, feed ourselves and do all the things in our life that become the mundane. But as I sit here today, typing this GoFundMe for my brother-in-law, it reminds me again of just how precious our lives are.
On August 27th, my brother-in-law Joe, being the amazing uncle and friend that he always is, took my son and his buddies out to watch Nascar race in Daytona. Unfortunately they got rained out, not a big deal... Little did he know that would be the last time he would drive, or the last time, he'd walk up 3 flights of stairs. Joe suffered a debilitating disk rupture that night that left him paralyzed on his hands and from the waist down.
That night, he had neck pains which he thought was just from driving long hours so he massaged and he warm compressed. He tried to sleep, but the pain was unbearable during the middle of the night. He knew something was wrong when he could no longer move or feel his legs..... He called for help, thankfully his faithful girlfriend was by his side, she called an ambulance and Joe was submitted to the intensive care unit at South Lake Hospital that night.
His life changed for the foreseeable future. He had emergency surgery to remove the ruptured disks, and they put a cage in his neck to relieve the pressure and help re-stabilize his spine. However, he has an extensive amount of rehabilitation in front of him.
Joe is private person, but today he's asking if you could find it in your heart to help towards his medical costs, moving expenses as he continues to deal with the aftermath of this unexpected incident. I am stepping in to coordinate much of the administrative tasks as I can, including helping him coordinate a move and put his things into storage. We are not sure of what the near future holds, but right now, we know we need to raise as much money as possible to keep him in long term rehab so he can make a full recovery. As he continues to retrain his body, progress has been very positive and he should make a full recovery given the right treatment and rehab.
If you can help in anyway, whether monetarily or manpower, anything would help tremendously, and would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Suzanne Mora on behalf of Joe Ferrari
