Hello, friends of Jim,
I believe most of you are aware, your friend and mine, Jim, James, Jimmy Jam Felkner experienced a severe hemorrhagic stroke, brain bleed & risky brain surgery after a rocking gig with his band at the end of Aug 2022 in Austin, TX.
We are all incredibly grateful that he beat the odds of a 26% survival rate for the type of stroke experienced as well as a 50/50 chance of making it thru his emergency brain surgery. Steps taken by the EMTs and his emergency room surgeons saved his life.
Jim has spent the past 7 months recovering. He spent a long time in the ICU and then to 3 different rehabilitation hospitals in Austin. He and his family later moved to Houston for months, staying in hotels, to get him the best possible stroke rehabilitation in the US.
As his friends, I know many of us have tried to put ourselves in his shoes. It’s hard to fathom having such an independent and exuberant life as he was leading to having to be taught how to swallow again in the ICU. We try our best to empathize with an unimaginable turn of events in our friend’s life.
The frustration he must feel to be a talented guitarist that can’t play his guitar because his hand doesn’t work, or a singer songwriter who can’t find the tone because the stroke paralyzed some of his vocal cords, These are some of Jim’s current reality and why he is working tirelessly to regain his functions.
To walk. To play. To sing.
Jimmy has been working hard to recover, but he still has a long way to go. He has no feeling on his left side and must navigate life in a wheelchair while continuing outpatient and home therapy. He can move around his apt with a cane and has made amazing strides from when he first tried to walk. Although he is working full-time from home, the medical bills and expenses are piling up.
The first set of bills came to $250,000, and he owes a percentage that insurance doesn't cover. He also has home healthcare that costs an average of $2,000 a month. Jim's family had to stay in Houston hotels for months to take him to his specialized rehabilitation, and he would like to repay them for their sacrifice. Jim Sr., Sandy, Jen, and Julie have all made major sacrifices in their personal lives to help Jim get back on track. He is forever grateful. * Just for fun they also got in a car wreck in Houston while coming back from therapy one day and totaled Jim’s car. Thankfully, no one was hurt but the family didn’t need any more to deal with.
Jim has always been there for his friends during hard times, and now it's time for us to be there for him. We want to support him every step of the way - financially, emotionally, and spiritually. It doesn't matter how long it takes for him to fully recover; we know he will work tirelessly to get back to the things he loves.
Thank you for considering donating and sharing Jim's GoFundMe page. Let's help him get the care he needs to recover fully.
We love you Jim!
